This communication review will enhance both the hospital-based Mobile Intensive Care Nurse and the field-based first responder in both knowledge and communication skills. After listening to recorded actual dialogue between field providers and the hospital base, all listening parties will be able to critically examine facts and discuss communication that went well and discuss strategies for improvement.
Educational Objectives
1. State at least 2 criteria necessary in dialogue that constitutes clear and effective sender and receiver communication.
2. Explain at least 3 criteria that must be present to safely allow a
potential patient to sign out Against Medical Advice.
3. Verbalize an understanding of the appropriate criteria for a trauma activation. Verbalize understanding of criteria for a trauma
destination decision.
4. Explain at least one communication style that can diminish
communication between a pre-hospital care provider and hospital-
based RN.
Target audience: MICN, Paramedic, EMT, Fire, EMS Provider
approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing,
Provider Number CEP 150 for 2 contact hours.
2 EMS CEs will be provided by American Medical Response
